We are definitely looking at replacing the charging stations in Jackson and Schiffman Libraries and also purchasing new one for checkout. Stay tuned!

Computer cleanliness

You said:  Please clean the computers more often.

Yes, we plan to do a better job with this!  Because the computers are heavily used it's hard to get to them to clean. But we'll schedule times to clean when we're less busy.

Quiet Study Areas

You said:  I have trouble finding a quiet place to study in Jackson Library

Floors 6-9 in Jackson Library are quiet areas. We have put new furniture on 7,8 & 9 this year. See some examples here!

And, you can reserve a small study room (also pictured) on floors 2, 5, 6 and 7 for up to two hours at a time. On this web page they are the "small study rooms w/ PCs" and the "small study rooms w/o PCs.

If there is too much noise on a quiet floor you may chat with a staff member or call (336-334-5304) or report it to the Check Out Desk on the 1st floor.

Vending Machines in Jackson Library

You asked:  The new vending machines are great but too expensive.

We hear you! But, the Library doesn't set the prices. Vending with UNCG Campus Enterprises provides and maintains the vending machines. You may contact them at vending@uncg.edu or 336-334-3620.

Study Rooms with Big Screens

You asked:  What happened to the private rooms with the big screens?  We miss them!

We're so glad you find these rooms useful!  There are still several rooms with large screens throughout Jackson Library.  This web page provides information about all of them.

The ones with large screens are included in "Jackson Tower, Large Group Spaces," "Jackson Tower, Medium Group Spaces" and "Jackson Lower Level -- DMC Medium Group Spaces."

When you click through the reservation form you'll find which ones have screens.

New DVD releases

You said:  It used to be easier to find the list of new DVD releases.

This list is on a blog.  These blogs rotate on the Libraries' home page and you can access this list at any time to find the new additions to our DVD collection.

Spartan Card Machine

You said:  Please fix the "done" button on the Spartan Card machine in Jackson Library.

Coffee Shop

You asked:  We should have a coffee area.

We would LOVE to have a coffee shop in Jackson Library!  Unfortunately at this time we're not able to build one.  The nearby options include the Starbucks in EUC.  There are also vending machines in the basement of the Tower that offer cold coffee drinks as well as soft drinks.  These machines are available all hours the Library is open including 24/5.

Printing

You asked:  Can the Libraries offer free or cheaper printing?


Because the Libraries also serve the general public we are not able to offer free printing like the labs on campus do.

Our printing fees are set by UNCG's Information Technology Services and we need to follow them

Many of our resources let you download or email items and you can then print in a lab or on your personal printer.

The libraries have scanners in both Jackson and Schiffman Libraries.  Scans may be sent to your phone, a flash drive or email.

Please be sure to ask a staff member about printing and scanning.  And anything else!

Laptop checkout

You asked:  Can we have longer loan periods for laptops?

Because of the high demand for laptops we have the 4-hour loan period to provide as much access as possible.  Laptops may be renewed in person if there is no waiting list. More about our technology lending program is here.  Both Jackson and Schiffman Libraries also have over 100 PCs available of range of software.

Whiteboard tables

You asked: Can we get whiteboard tables that we can write on?  They are really convenient.

We are planning to experiment with different types of furniture this year and we can certainly try these!

In the meantime check out our new group study areas on Tower 2, 3 and 4 with lots of whiteboard space. And we bought many new rolling white boards that are on all the floors in Jackson and Schiffman

Rooms for tutoring

You asked:  Are there private rooms for tutoring?

Yes!  The study rooms on floors 2, 5 and 6 are ideal for tutoring.  They have a table and chairs, room for up to 3 people, power and wireless is available.  Any UNCG student may reserve them on the scheduler on the Libraries' home page.

Clickers

You asked:  Please provide "clickers" (audience response devices) for check out.

Libraries' response:  Clickers need to be registered with an individual to be used for a long period of time so it's not something we can really provide for multiple users.

The UNCG Bookstore has new and used clickers for purchase.

Digital Media Commons (DMC) hours

You asked:  Please keep the DMC open 24/5, especially during exams.

We're delighted how much students love the DMC!  The reason we aren't able to keep it open 24 hours is primarily funding.  If we kept the DMC opened we'd have to staff it. Also, we'd need to keep  the College Avenue entrance open due to fire regulations and staff that, too.  Unfortunately, we don't have the resources at this time to cover this additional staffing.

New quiet study areas

We've added additional quiet study rooms on the 5th and 6th floors.  They may be reserved on the scheduler on the Libraries' home page.  And they're available 24/5!

Libraries' DVD collection is very popular!

You said:  I'd like to see more up-to-date movies in the collection and be able to check out more than 2 at a time
